A Tamaqua man landed in the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville on Dec. 11 after scuffling with police who were responding to a domestic abuse call.
Officers were called to the 200 block of Brown Street at 1:51 a.m. where they could hear loud voices coming from a living room near the middle of the block. Once inside the home the officer spoke with Rocci Schuima, 38, and a female victim who was sporting a large bruise on her forehead. The woman said she was struck by Schuima during an argument.Schuima, who had been sitting on a couch, jumped up and aggressively approached the officer, telling him he better call for back up before starting to wrestle with the officer. Despite being taken to the floor, Schuima continued to struggle with police, including officers who responded from Rush Township and Coaldale, until he was handcuffed. He was arraigned before on-call District Judge James Ferrier, of Orwigsburg, on charges of simple assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and harassment. Bail was set at $15,000 straight, which he was unable to post.
