A Schuylkill County man is being sought on a warrant for simple assault.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said at 7:15 p.m. March 23, William Hopkins, 46, of Summit Station, and a 46-year-old woman were riding in a vehicle westbound on Deturksville Road, in Washington Township, while engaged in an argument.The situation escalated when Hopkins began striking the woman, who was driving. The victim stopped the car in the roadway, then turned into a driveway on Deturksville Road.She attempted to get out of the vehicle but Hopkins pulled on her hair to keep her inside.During this time a passing motorist observed the assault and turned around to assist. When the motorist arrived back at the scene, both the victim and Hopkins were outside the vehicle.Hopkins was hitting the woman on the ground. The motorist intervened and pulled Hopkins off the victim. Hopkins ran away before troopers arrived.Troopers have obtained an arrest warrant for Hopkins.Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call troopers at 570-739-1330.
