State police at Frackville reported investigating two crashes on Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County on Wednesday just three minutes apart.
The first crash occurred at 4:37 p.m. in Foster Township and involved two truck-tractors.Troopers said Alexander S. Davis, 23, of Lowville, New York, was driving a 1998 Peterbilt tractor with flatbed trailer northbound when the dunnage straps holding down equipment on the flatbed came loose and began to flap.Several truckers attempted to call Davis on CB radios to alert him of the situation, troopers said.A piece of the equipment load broke away from the trailer and hit the radiator of a 2011 International Harvester tractor driven by Joseph B. Hettich, 53, of Honesdale, Wayne County, who was behind Davis.The tractor was disabled due to the damage to the radiator.No one was injured in the incident, troopers said.The second crash occurred at 4:40 p.m. in Butler Township. Troopers said Mason White, 21, of Ashland, was driving a 2007 Toyota Scion northbound when he said he took his eyes off the road for a couple of seconds as he was looking at an item inside his car.White lost control of the Scion which went onto the right berm and impacted with a cement barrier. After impact the vehicle spun-out across both lanes of travel and came to rest along the median.White sustained a minor injury but refused medical attention. The Scion sustained heavy damages and had to be towed from the scene.
