Ninety-year-old Edith Lukasevich made apparent history on Tuesday in the municipal primary election of 2017.

The longtime Democrat, who previously served on the Jim Thorpe Borough Council, was one of five people seeking four nominations for four-year terms on the board, and finished in third place in the balloting, joining three incumbents in advancing to November. There were no Republican candidates on the ballot.Lukasevich tallied 359 votes and joined council members Thomas Highland, 400; Gregory Strubinger, 362; and Joanne Klitsch, 333, in winning nominations. Failing to advance was Dennis J. McGinley III, who finished fifth with 285 votes.Two incumbents in the borough, Mayor Michael J. Sofranko and tax collector Terry M. McElmoyle, were unopposed on both ballots Tuesday.Sofranko, a Republican, received 253 complimentary votes, while Democrat McElmoyle collected 522 token votes.Penn Forest TownshipIn Penn Forest Township, Republican voters settled a two-person race for the nomination for a six-year term on the board of supervisors.Tom Cross won that race with 132 votes, defeating William L. Miller Jr., who was 12 votes behind him with 120.Cross will face Democrat Roger L. Meckes in November. The latter was unopposed and received 236 complimentary votes in that balloting.He also ran unopposed on both tickets for the two-year term on the board that is available and received 228 complimentary votes.Tax collector Josiah Behrens, a Democrat, is seeking re-election to another four-year term. He was unopposed as well and collected 272 votes. There was no GOP candidate.There were no candidates in the township on either ballot for a six-year term on the board of auditors.Kidder TownshipOnly two names appeared on the Kidder Township ballot Tuesday.Incumbents Supervisor Larry Polansky and tax collector Kim M. Ginopolas are seeking re-election to six-year and four-year terms, respectively, and were unchallenged.Polansky, a Republican, collected 57 token votes. Democrat Ginopolas received 56 complimentary votes.There were no candidates in the township on either ballot for a six-year term on the board of auditors.
