East Penn home gutted

A mobile home was gutted after a fire broke out Monday afternoon in East Penn Township.

Firefighters responded just before 4:30 p.m. to the scene of the blaze in the 600 block of Dinkey Road, according to fire Chief Robert Kleintop Jr.

Upon arrival, Kleintop said firefighters encountered a mobile home that was fully involved. No one was inside the home, Kleintop said.

Kleintop said firefighters battled the blaze for over three hours, but couldn't save the home, which is a total loss.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

A state fire marshal was called to the scene, Kleintop said.

No one was injured.

"With the high humidity and the high heat, it took its toll on firefighters," Kleintop said. "Thanks to all the firefighters that assisted us."

Also assisting at the scene were the Bowmanstown and Mahoning Township fire departments and Lehighton ALS.

Mahoning Ambulance brought its rehab unit.
