Defendants enter guilty pleas

A total of 11 defendants in pending criminal cases entered guilty pleas on Tuesday afternoon in Carbon County court before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.

Access device fraudDavid Richard Snyder, 54, of Palmerton, pleaded guilty to one count each of access device fraud and unauthorized use of an automobile.Snyder was arrested by state police at Lehighton for taking the vehicle of Diane Lowry, of 16 Cornell Ave., Franklin Township, as well as her ATM card, and then using the card to get cash. Also taken from Lowry were two cell phones.Prior to the start of his plea proceeding, Nanovic conducted a parole revocation hearing on a petition filed by the adult probation office against Snyder for violation in parole on another criminal case. Snyder did not contest the petition to revoke.On that case Nanovic resentenced him to serve out the remainder of his maximum, which runs to March 28, 2016.On the access device fraud count he was placed on probation for two years concurrent with the parole violation matter, and ordered to supply a DNA sample, and make total restitution of $1,200.On the unauthorized use charge he was placed on probation for a year consecutive to the other counts.It was also noted that if Snyder can arrange to enter a long-term drug rehabilitation program he would be furloughed from the county jail to attend it. If he successfully completes the program it will count against his prison term.Other pleasBrandon Robert Buck, 29, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of possession of a controlled substance-marijuana. He was arrested on Aug. 29, 2013, by state police at Lehighton following a search of his residence at 355 Hickory Road in Palmerton, Lower Towamensing Township.Prior to the plea proceeding Nanovic conducted a probation revocation hearing on a petition filed by the adult probation office. Buck admitted to the violations alleged in the petition.Nanovic resentenced him on that case to serve six to 12 months in the county prison effective Aug. 30, 2013. His scheduled release date is Feb. 28.On the new charge he was placed on probation for a year, consecutive to the probation revocation charge, and ordered to pay a fine of $500, and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment.Anthony John Lasorda, 57, of Phoenixville, Chester County, pleaded to one count each of public drunkenness and conduct on government property, both summaries.He was arrested on July 7, 2013, by park rangers at Beltzville State Park, in Lower Towamensing Township, where he was found in the lake floating in a device while intoxicated.Nanovic imposed fines of $300 on each count for a total of $600.Matthew Tyler Baker, 22, of Saylorsburg, pleaded to two counts of theft and one of criminal mischief.He was charged by state police at Lehighton for his part in the entry and theft incident at the Alliance Sand business at 415 Golf Road in Lower Towamensing Township, which occurred on Sept. 7, 2013.Troopers responded to the area to a report of criminal activity. Baker and another co-defendant, identified as August Harsch, had entered the property and attempted to enter buildings. They took a 2002 Ford F250 truck that was parked there and owned by Silver Valley Drilling and Blasting Company. The truck was found a short distance from the site.Sentencing was deferred because there is a question concerning restitution.Natalie Ashley Sanabria, 23, of Philadelphia, pleaded to one count of possession of a small amount of marijuana. She was arrested on May 27, 2013, along Pohopoco Drive in Franklin Township, following a vehicle stop. She was a passenger in the vehicle and was found to have marijuana in her purse.Nanovic imposed a fine of $100.Marianne Hauser, 48, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of possession of a controlled substance-heroin. She was arrested on May 17, 2013, by Lehighton police in the area of 185 S. First St.Police found Hauser at that location and served a warrant on her. While taking her into custody they found a bag of heroin on her.Sentencing was deferred.Bernard Steve Wayne, 67, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of driving under the influence. He was arrested on Nov. 29, 2012, along Pohopoco Drive by Franklin Township police. Given a test, the result was .18BAC.A first offense, Wayne was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 and get a D&A evaluation.Kandis K. Exner, 43, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. She was arrested on Aug. 29, 2013, at the state police barracks in Towamensing Township. She went to the barracks to be fingerprinted on a pending DUI case when troopers found drug paraphernalia in her purse. She claimed she had found the items in her son's bedroom and forgot she had placed them in her purse.Nanovic placed her on probation for six months and ordered her to get a D&A evaluation.Matthew Richard Verrico, 23, of Effort, pleaded to one count each of possession, sale, use or display of documents and expired inspection sticker. He was arrested on May 4, 2013, by state police at Lehighton following a vehicle stop in Franklin Township. He had altered a registration sticker on the registration plate on his motorcycle.Nanovic placed him on probation for six months and imposed a fine of $250. On the inspection sticker offense he was fined $25 and costs.Amanda Marie Ward, 22, of Topton, Berks County, pleaded to one count of DUI. She was arrested on Aug. 31, 2013, along the turnpike in Franklin Township, by state police at Pocono. Given a test, the result was .12BAC.Nanovic sentenced her to serve five days to six months in jail, a fine of $750, one-year license suspension, and get a D&A evaluation.She will begin the jail term at 10 a.m. on Feb. 3.Claudette Ann Wiley, 36, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of retail theft. She was arrested on Aug. 18, 2013, at the Rite Aid store in Palmerton for removing $37.22 worth of merchandise without paying for it. The items were recovered.Nanovic placed her on probation for six months.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs, which average about $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
