3 named to appeals board
Three Polk Township residents, Greg B. Mackes, Robert E. Serfass and Dennis A. Smale, were appointed to the appeals board in regard to the Uniform Construction Code. Their reappointment will be part of the reorganizational meeting held in the beginning of January each year.
The township supervisors approved the use of liquid fuels monies rather than general fund monies for work on the Lower Middlecreek bridge, even though using said funds will create a more expensive protocol. The trio also approved enumerating the possible uses of the Taraschi property on Route 209 and Polk Township Road, now in township ownership, for the county in order to remove said property from the county tax rolls.Linda Snyder, treasurer of the Aquaschicola/ Pohopoco Watershed Conservancy brought the group's thanks to the board for allowing the group to meet in the township facility. The Conservancy will now meet at 7 p.m. the third Thursday of the month.More members are needed said Snyder, who detailed some of the group's many volunteer works after the meeting concluded. Interested persons can call her at (570) 629-1360 or check the group's website at www.apwc-pa.org.A public hearing, regarding a proposed amendment to Zoning Section 5.1 in regards to street upgrade will be held Monday, Nov. 8.In regard to the upcoming street addressing changes, the township is still tenth on the list, right after Hamilton Township. It might get done before the end of the year, she reported. But, she added, with only four done so far, "I doubt it."The board will be working on the 2011 budget and, reported Chairman Brian K. Ahner, the township will not replace mailboxes in the township right of waydamaged due to bad weather road clearing. Residents need to be careful as to where vehicles are parked during said weather. And, the report by Secretary Nancy C. May concerning the township's Fire Safety Day, held Sunday, indicated it was well-attended and offered many activities. They ranged from a helicopter landing, to a car being cut open, to the West End Ambulance and The Monroe County Control Center being on hand, as well as many indoor activities in the fire hall for the children."It was a good day," was her assessment.Following the Monroe County Council of Governments practice, Polk Township will hold its official Trick or Treat time from 5 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 31.
