Shackleton makes final at PIAA swim meet

Northwestern's Trey Shackleton had the sixth best time in Friday morning's 200 freestyle prelimary heat at the PIAA State Swimming Championships.

Shackleton's time at Bucknell University's Kinney Natatorium qualified him for the tonight's Class AA boys finals in the event.Shackleton turned in a time of 1:43.73 in his heat.Tamaqua had a pair of swimmers competing in Friday morning's girls Class AA preliminaries. Joann Butkus had the 14th best time in the 50 freestyle, earning her a spot in Friday night's consolation final. Teammate Rebecca Kanaskie had the 25th fastest time in the 200 IM and did not qualify for the finals.The TIMES NEWS has a writer and photographer at the meet and will have full coverage of the three area competitors in Saturday's paper.Shackleton and Butkus will both be competing on Saturday as well. Shackleton will swim in the 500 freestyle and Butkus in the 100 breast stroke.
