March 15, 1978 Lynne Titus hits a free throw with five seconds left to break a tie and lift Tamaqua to a 53-52 win over previuosly unbeaten Susquehanna Township in the PIAA Class AA Eastern championship game. With Susquehanna holding for the final shot, Titus comes up with a steal and is fouled. She makes the front end of a one-and-one to send the Raiders to the state title game. Cindy Miller scores a game-high 17 points and pulls down 11 rebounds for the winners, coached by Karen Sheets. Titus ends with 13 points while Wendy Truskey contributes 11.
