Lower Towamensing Township supervisors met Tuesday afternoon for their reorganization meeting.

Brent Green was appointed chairman of the supervisors. He will also serve as the voting delegate to the state convention. Ron Walbert will serve as vice chairman of the supervisors. The board of supervisors also includes Jesse Mendez. The elected supervisors receive $1,875 per year, or $156.25 per month. The supervisors may also be employed part-time by the township to perform work on the roads on a strictly as-needed basis. The compensation is equal to the lowest-paid laborer, which is about $17 per hour.Christine Wentz was reappointed as township secretary and treasurer. Her position is full time at 40 hours a week and an annual salary of $40,777.16.The township has three additional full-time employees. They are Charles Shupp, township road foreman; Kathy Wallace, township assistant road foreman; and Timothy George.All employees were given a 2 percent wage increase, which was approved in the 2017 budget."They will be put on the pension plan effective today," Green said.The supervisors approved the pension plan for the budget for this year.Part-time employees include Tim Strohl and Paul Strohl."We added more vacation days this year," Vice Chairman Ronald Walbert said about the benefits for full-time employees.The supervisors tabled appointing someone as assistant township secretary, and decided to fill an opening on the road crew first. The secretarial position will be advertised at a later date.The nonelected township officials include: James Nanovic, solicitor; Duane Dellecker, zoning officer; Sean Corey, alternate zoning officer, sewage enforcement and well enforcement officer; Gerry Madden, vacancy board; Rory Koons, civil defense and emergency management; Ron Tirpak of Carbon Engineering, engineering firm for Act 537; and Carbon Engineering, the township's engineering firm.The zoning hearing board members are James Ord, Keith George and James DeRosa. The solicitor is Holly Heintzelman.The planning commission and remaining length of term includes: Angela Farrell and Doug Lucich, both one year; Jay Mullikin and Mike Davis, both two years; and Janice Mack, three years.The recreation board and date of term expiration includes: Dave Hawk, Dec. 31, 2017; Bob Kester, Dec. 31, 2018; and Angela Farrell and Allison Vandergrift, both on Dec. 31, 2019.
