Weissport borough is in need of a part-time employee.

The borough had two maintenance workers, but one has resigned because of being approved for disability.

Council said on Monday it is seeking applications from anyone interested in the position, which includes plowing snow in the winter.

Other business

• Council President Gene Kershner said the trash collecting contract for the borough with County Waste of Stroudsburg has been renewed at the current rate for another year. This means trash collection rates for 2018 will remain the same as they presently are, which is $185.60 per year for each household.

• Council said it plans to give tentative approval to its 2018 budget on Dec. 18 and final approval at a special meeting on Dec. 29.

• Vice President Arland Moyer said the borough needs a snowblower; that its existing one is in bad condition. It was decided to table any action at the present time.

• Chief of Police Denna Krammes informed council that a portable defibrillator was donated to the Weissport Police Department by Ryan Township.

• Krammes gave her report for the month of November. During the month, the part-time chief issued four citations, handled one abandoned vehicle complaint, cited one driver for driving while intoxicated, investigated an incident of criminal mischief to a motor vehicle and participated in a DUI checkpoint.

• Council held discussion about numerous properties with a lot of junk on the premises, including some homes with loads of stuff on front porches and in yards. An email was received complaining about a household in the 200 block of White Street, which has such a problem including sewage overflowing in the yard and failure to clean up dog feces. Council discussed taking action against such property owners.

• Discussion was also held concerning moving permits. The cost of a moving permit is $5, said tax collector Lynette Moyer, noting few people moving into the borough or from the borough obtain them.

It was also noted that few landlords report changes in tenants, as required by the borough ordinance. Kershner said landlords can be fined up to $300 per violation for not informing the borough who is renting their units.

• Council will continue meeting on the first and third Monday of each month in 2018 with the exception of meetings in September (Labor Day) and December.

• Council plans to adopt its handicapped parking ordinance and burning ordinance at its Dec. 18 meeting.
