Crash brings down utility pole, road closed in Polk Twp.

A car crash in Polk Township brought down a utility pole, resulting in the closure of the road on Thursday morning.

State Police at Lehighton reported a crash at approximately 10 a.m. on Long Mountain Road near the intersection with Kreger Road. While driving southbound in a 2013 Ford Fusion, a Gilbert resident traveled onto the grassy shoulder, continued off the roadway and struck a utility pole with the car’s front end.

The pole broke, causing wires to block both travel lanes on Long Mountain Road.

The vehicle continued along the southbound shoulder until the vehicle came to a rest. The driver was listed as uninjured in the crash report, and refused transport to a medical center.

The driver was charged with a violation of driving at a safe speed.

Due to heavy damage sustained from the crash, the vehicle was towed from the scene by Borger’s Towing.

PPL and Palmerton Telephone Company were notified of the broken pole, and representatives from the companies came to the scene. Due to the downed wires, Long Mountain Road was closed and traffic was detoured.

West End Ambulance and Polk Township Fire Company assisted at the scene.
