U.S. Congressman Matt Cartwright, D-17th District, has intervened with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission about the pipeline on behalf of a Plains homeowner.

According to the letter dated Jan. 25, Phyllis Jacewicz lives within a few hundred feet of an active quarry and the current route for the proposed PennEast pipeline runs between her home and the quarry.In her letter to Cartwright, Jacewicz expressed her concerns regarding the use of dynamite at the quarry and living within the "incineration zone" should the blasts cause the pipeline to rupture.Jacewicz also expressed concerns with her frustrations over lack of response from FERC to the numerous letters, emails and other attempts to correspond with the agency regarding the project.Jacewicz has attempted to correspond with FERC to address these issues but her attempts have gone unanswered, Cartwright said."I would appreciate your careful review of this situation and any information which may be helpful to my constituent. Please give this matter your full and fair consideration," Cartwright wrote.The PennEast pipeline which is to carry compressed natural gas from fracking is slated to go through Carbon County in part. The only compressor station on the pipeline is to be located in Kidder Township.FERC is expected to make a decision on the pipeline application in April.
