Save Carbon County, a local group that has been vocal in its opposition to the PennEast pipeline will be staging a rally before a public hearing for the compressor station Wednesday night.

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection is conducting the hearing Wednesday night at the Town Center at Split Rock Resort to hear public comments on the proposed compressor station.The station is to be built in Kidder Township as part of the pipeline project that is to run from northeast Pennsylvania south and into New Jersey.Late last year Kidder Township approved the site for the compressor station. The parcel of land is off Route 940 at Industrial Road, with the station to be situated between the 940 and the Route 80 corridor."In considering this permit, the Department of Environmental Protection is obligated to ensure that reasonable efforts have been made to reduce the environmental harm to a minimum and to also ensure that the harms do not outweigh the benefits of the project," said Linda Christman of Save Carbon County."It is clear that the benefits of this project at 'all about the profit' that can be made by UGI and their partners while the harms are forced on the beautiful Poconos and the people who live here."According to Save Carbon County's news release, the compressor station will emit 194 tons of pollution per year.The rally will be held from 5:30 to 6 p.m. outside the Town Center. The hearing will be held from 6 to 9 p.m."It is our goal to urge PA-DEP to say NO and to protect the right to clean air guaranteed in our state constitution," Christman said.
