But if you were on the roads this Tuesday, even if you avoided any accidents, chances are you might have to hit the auto parts store.Salesman Brad Clewell of Carquest Auto Parts in Palmerton said that the store had plenty of foot traffic on Wednesday, and windshield wipers were a hot item."I can tell you that about one out of every five sales has been wiper blades," Clewell said.Clewell said that many people can inadvertently break wipers when they clear off their cars, or on occasion, just by turning them on."When the snow and ice freeze on the windshield, and you hit the switch, sometimes that can tear the wiper right off," he said.While many people will position their wiper blades up and away from the windshield before a storm - the logic being that this prevents the blades from sticking to the windshield - this can lead to more damage. High winds can whip the blades against the windshield, potentially cracking or scratching the glass, in addition to snapping the blades.Other highly sought-out items included windshield washer fluid and replacement plow parts. Considering the hefty snowfall on Tuesday, and the concurrent heavy use of both plows and washer fluid with antifreeze additives, these sales are no surprise.So, if you had a fairly treacherous commute that resulted in some depleted windshield washer fluid, or perhaps a broken blade or two, rest assured that you have plenty of company. And even if you have to stock up on a few winter essentials for your vehicle right on the cusp of spring, at least you'll be prepared - with this weather, you just don't know when the snow will strike again.
