Memories of the Mahoning Drive In

Dear Editor:

I have had a rush of memories flood back to me this week, thinking about the Mahoning Drive In. And the memories are great ones especially when mother nature seemed to rain down during a scene in Jurassic Park, adding to the tension. You could see the lights in other cars pop on, was a site to see. That Drive In is special to us in this area, its a landmark full of memories and is reopening this very weekend as you all know. I wanted to share this poem i wrote for OUR Drive In Theater!!! Good Luck this season!!Welcome Home AgainDrive up to the gate, Take me back in time,The playground where the kids are at playThe smell of popcorn fills the air out hereAs does the sound of family, friends, & lifeGiven to a place that is becoming wholeA little bit of paint and some new lightsFriends lending a hand where they canTo bring back something, their memoryOf a time when life was new and simpleOf a time where we came to be neighborsUnfold your blankets and pull up a chairThe sun begins to set, more friends arriveFriends & family underneath the starsThe starry skies framing the big screenThey come to remember themselvesA hand to hold, a first date, a first kissNo better feeling in the chill night airAs when the first movie begins to showWelcome home to the best memoriesEscape for a while and enjoy the show…Dedicated to the Mahoning Drive In, and all those helping bring it back again!Thank you for the memories, the popcorn, and the stars in the sky!!Mark S DriesbachJim Thorpe
