Heckman, Matsinko remain tied in Grid Picks
Editor's note: The Times News writers made their Grid Pick selections before the playing of Thursday night's Liberty-Emmaus game. That contest was moved ahead due to possible bad weather on Friday.
It's Week 4 of the high school football season. Hurricanes are in the mix with Joaquin hovering off the east coast and some local teams are already playing important games as far as post-season playoffs go.There were quite a few identical records among our prognosticators last week. Co-leaders Rod Heckman and Patrick Matsinko were two of those with identical marks, thus leaving them knotted at the top of the standings.I, on the other hand, need to grab onto a wave from this hurricane and ride it to the upper half of our group. So here goes:LEHIGHTON AT GOVERNOR MIFFLIN - Indians suffered a loss against this team last year and are coming off a big Anthracite win over Blue Mountain last week. This one is on the road so that might make a difference again … Governor Mifflin, 28-21.MARIAN AT BLUE MOUNTAIN - Colts are in the midst of the toughest part of their schedule. Eagles lost a toughie last week at Lehighton … Blue Mountain, 19-7.NORTHERN LEHIGH AT PALISADES - Bulldogs hung in there with Notre Dame last week before falling in the second half. If the long bus ride doesn't stand in their way, it's back to the "W" column … Northern Lehigh, 14-13.NORTHWESTERN AT SAUCON VALLEY - Panthers are one of just two Colonial League teams left unbeaten. Tigers lost to the other … Saucon Valley, 21-7.NOTRE DAME AT PALMERTON - Bombers were hoping to go into this matchup against the Crusaders unbeaten, but that hiccup against Palisades last week ended that thought. Picked No. Lehigh to beat ND last week, so I have to pick … Palmerton, 21-18.POCONO MOUNTAIN WEST AT PLEASANT VALLEY - Bears finally hit the part of the EPC schedule where they can show their stuff … Pleasant Valley, 28-14.SCHUYLKILL HAVEN AT JIM THORPE - Hurricanes or not, the Olympians continue to roll … Jim Thorpe, 21-0.TAMAQUA AT PANTHER VALLEY - A good old fashion rivalry game here and it's all about stopping the Blue Raider running game … Tamaqua, 28-14.MAHANOY AREA AT NORTH SCHUYLKILL - Might be too late, but Spartans have found their groove … North Schuylkill, 21-0.SHENANDOAH VALLEY AT MINERSVILLE - Devils got their first win of the season last week, but Miners are a tad better … Minersville, 21-7.WILSON AT CATASAUQUA - Thought about picking the Warriors here, but Roughies have already won a game … Catasauqua, 12-7.CENTRAL CATHOLIC AT FREEDOM - Vikings surprised with a win over Easton last week. This week will be a toughie too … Freedom, 28-24.LIBERTY AT EMMAUS - Like I said before, it's Hurricane time … Liberty, 28-12.SALISBURY AT PEN ARGYL - The Falcons make the Saturday afternoon trip to the Slate Belt where you never know what's going to happen … Salisbury, 28-7.WHITEHALL AT PARKLAND - Zephyrs don't have near enough to compete in this one … Parkland, 35-7.
