A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence following a crash in which his vehicle struck two parked cars. Speed was also a factor.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said Gregory S. Vandaley, 32, of Minersville, was driving a 2011 Nissan Rogue at a high rate of speed on Route 209 in Tremont, at 2:57 a.m. on Saturday when he went onto the west berm and impacted with a concrete bridge abutment. After impact the Rogue continued south for about 300 feet before reaching E. Main Street. The Rogue then impacted with the driver's side of a parked 2002 Ford Windstar. After impact the Windstar spun 180 degrees counter-clockwise while it was pushed several feet to the east. The Windstar then struck the front porch of the residence at 114 E. Main St.The Rogue continued south after that impact and then struck a parked 2001 Chrysler Town & Country. The impact forced the Chrysler to spin 180 degrees counterclockwise and pushed it into a utility pole.At this point the Rogue overturned on its passenger side and came to rest on a sidewalk along the east berm facing north. Vandaley had to be extricated from his vehicle and was taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-E. Norwegian St., Pottsville, for treatment of what troopers said were major injuries.Vandaley was suspected of DUI and a blood draw was obtained, troopers said. The DUI charge is pending the test results. All three vehicles had to be towed, troopers added.
