Palmerton Superintendent Scot Engler praised the accomplishments of several students in the school district at the board meeting Tuesday night.

Among them are the eighth-grade ACE Team who won first place, silver and bronze medalists in the Math 24 Challenge Competition, and Autumn Heydt, of Bowmanstown, who won first place in the Iron Pigs "Paint the Pig" Contest. Her design was an American flag with stripes of bacon.Heydt told the school board she looked at other designs and decided to pair bacon with the American flag.Many in attendance smiled and approved of the two favorites.School board member Charles Gildner chimed in with, "What American doesn't love bacon?"- Kristine Porter
