Annual Schuylkill fall cleanup drop off sites and dates are announced
Tamaqua Transfer Station, located along the sewage plant road, is one of 10 drop-off sites for the Schuylkill County Fall Cleanup which will begin Monday, Sept. 20. The cleanup will run through Saturday, Oct. 2.
The purpose of the cleanup, initiated by the county commissioners 11 years ago is to allow homeowners to drop-off at the sites such bulky items as used tires, old furniture and electronic items such as computers. No hazardous waste material will be excepted such as used paint cans, solventes, cleaners or any poisonous materials.The drop-off sites will accept old television sets, microwaves, air conditioners, refrigerators, dehumidifiers, stoves, washers, dryers, bicycles, grills, mattresses, doors, windows, sofas and many other items gathering dust in basements and garages.There will be no charge for dropping off stoves, washers, dryers, water heaters, bicycles, barbecue grills and metal furniture. For television sets, microwaves and computer systems, $5 each; single monitor, hard drive or printer, $2 each; tires (up to 16 inches in diameter) without rims, $1 each; tire (up to 16 inches in diameter) with rims, $2 each; air conditioners, refrigerators, dehumidifiers, $4 each; mattresses, box springs, rolls of carpet, doors and windows, $5 each; and sofas and overstuffed chairs, $5 per cushion.The drop-off sites and times they are accepted are as follows:Tamaqua Transfer Statiion, Sewage Plant Road, from Sept. 27 to Oct. 1 - 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Oct. 2 - 8 a.m. to noon.North Manheim Township Municiipal Building, 303 Manheim Road - Sept. 30 to Oct. 2 - 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Oct. 2 - 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.Wayne Township Municiipal Building - SR183 and Municipal Road - Sept. 23 - noon to 6 p.m.; Sept. 24 - 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; and Sept. 25 - 7:30 a.m. to noon.Pine Grove Landfill, 193 Schultz Road - Sept. 27 to Oct. 1 - 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Oct. 2 - 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.C.E.S.
