May 14, 1955 Nesquehoning's Bill Sluck wins two events and Tamaqua claims the team title at the Black Diamond League track and field meet in Coaldale. Sluck takes first in the 880 with a time of 2:10.6 and also captures the mile in 4:51 a new meet record. Three other league records are set by Tamaqua's Luther Miller (10-6 in the pole vault) and Mike Stebilla (47-11 1/2 in the shot put), and Lansford's Mike Midas (5-6 1/2 in the high jump), while Coaldale's Joe Ozefovich ties a record (10.3 in the 100). Other winners are Lansford's Jack Marshall (discus) and Bussy Earley (440), Tamaqua's Bill Fritz (220) and Joe Kleponis (broad jump) and Nesquehoning's Nick Digilia (javelin).
