Local outdoors radio program garners award
"Experience The Outdoors," a weekly outdoors radio program broadcast Sundays at 7 a.m. on 1410-AM WLSH, Lansford, and 9:30 a.m. on Magic 105.5-FM, Tamaqua, placed first in the "Best Radio/TV Award" category of the Pennsylvania Outdoor Writers Association Craft Achievements Awards at the organization's annual spring conference and awards banquet held at Shippensburg University.
Hosted by veteran outdoors writer Doyle Dietz, he has been a member of POWA since 1988 and has hosted the program since developing it eight years ago. Judging the entries for this year's POWA awards were members of the California Outdoor Writers Association, and in making their selection the judges commented on the program's variety - citing coverage of local, state and national topics and in particular coverage of youth - and its relaxed format.Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission executive director John Arway is this week's guest on the program.**********Blue Ridge Rifles Muzzleloader Club, located along Coon Club Road off Route 183, south of Summit Station, a self-supporting organization founded in 1976 and a member of the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association and the Pennsylvania Federation of Black Powder Shooters, is holding the Eastern Pennsylvania Rendezvous and Muzzleloader Shoot, today-Monday. Competitive shooting events for traditional muzzleloader rifles, smoothbores and pistols are today and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for men, women and juniors - which is a free match to enter and shoot for those 16 and younger. Other activities include informal shooting Thursday and Friday, a Saturday night bonfire and trade sessions, knife and hawk matches, a primitive archery woods walk and games for children and adults.**********Nikon and Cabela's are teaming up to present "Extreme Raptor Weekend," today and Sunday, at the Hamburg Cabela's. Although no fishing license is required, all size, creel limits and other regulations apply. Friday, July 4, is the second "Fish for Free" day.
