West End Fair opens Sunday

Tomorrow at 10 a.m, the 89th annual edition of the West End Fair in Gilbert officially begins.

Special for youngsters tomorrow are celebrity look-alike character shows, featuring Goof at 11 a.m., Spiderman at 1 p.m., and Darth Vader at 4:30 p.m.Quarter midget racing will be in the main arena starting at 11 a.m.There will be a community church service by the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network at 6:30 p.m.Entertainment is by Steel Creek at noon, 2, and 4 p.m., and Eva at 1 and 3 p.m.There will be a spectacular fireworks display at 9:30 p.m.On Monday, the official fair opening date, country singer Donna Parsons will entertain at 1, 3, and 5 p.m. and Elvis impersonator Ryan Pelton will take the stage at 7 and 9 p.m.Also Monday, the Pleasant Valley High School marching band will perform in the band shell at 6 p.m.A demolition derby featuring full size cars and mini vans occurs at 7 p.m. Monday.
