Tamaqua teen Turkey Hill recipe finalist

Forget s'mores.

They might be a tasty snack, but that trend is dated. They're so 1970s.Hometown's Madelyn Dolinsky came up with a better idea with something to please her father."My dad likes chocolate and peanut butter," she said.So with that combination in mind, Dolinsky concocted a dessert to knock your socks off. It's called the Nutty Chocolate Ice Cream Banana Sandwich and she created it just in time to enter a contest sponsored by Turkey Hill."I'm actually one of their fans; I follow the Turkey Hill blog," said Dolinsky, 17, a senior at Tamaqua Area High School.Turns out, Dolinsky's dazzling dessert was singled out as one of four finalists in the contest.Truth be told, Dolinsky said s'mores served as inspiration."We like camping and it's a s'more thing," she admitted. But she took the basic s'more idea and added complementary flavors and new ingredients."I like to keep it all natural. It has all-natural ingredients," she said, including all-natural Turkey Hill ice cream.By coincidence, Turkey Hill picked up on the s'more similarity, calling Dolinsky's creation "a delicious take on the classic s'more."To assemble it, Dolinsky layers chocolate and vanilla ice cream, bananas, peanut butter and chopped peanuts. All of it is carefully assembled over a graham cracker. The finished creation is then topped with another graham cracker and drizzled with tempting, diet-decadent chocolate. And who doesn't like chocolate?Actually, Dolinsky's boyfriend isn't big on it. But she did receive moral support from him. His name is Noah Troxell and he, too, attends Tamaqua Area High School."We like to cook things and bake things together," she said. "But Noah isn't a fan of chocolate."For weeks, the public has been casting votes on the Turkey Hill website.Regular announcements were made at Tamaqua Area High School so that students could vote for Dolinsky's creativity. As a finalist, Dolinsky already will receive a month's supply of Turkey Hill ice cream. But if she's the overall winner, she'll be in line for a year's supply of the frozen delight. What about the calories?"It doesn't matter," said Dolinsky, an accomplished tennis player.Let's face it, when it's time for dessert, who's counting calories?Dolinsky said the Turkey Hill blog challenged readers to make recipes using Turkey Hill ice cream as a key ingredient, and that's how it all started."I made it just for the contest," she said. She put lots of enthusiasm into the recipe because she's fond of each of the ingredients and figured it'd be a success."My favorite ice cream is chocolate peanut butter," she said.Is there any food she doesn't particularly like?"Cheese," she said. "I don't like anything cheesy."Dolinsky is the daughter of Richard and Michelle Dolinsky. She hopes to attend Wilkes University and major in biology in order to specialize in genetics. If that's what happens, her dorm room at Wilkes better have plenty of space for a potential year's supply of ice cream.
