Snyder helps NL rally

Northern Lehigh's Floyd Snyder found out Tuesday he would start in place of injured quarterback Chad Cedarberg.

He made the most of his opportunity, leading the Bulldogs to a 14-13 come-from-behind win over Palisades. The senior ran for 116 yards and scored the game-winning touchdown with just 29 seconds left in the fourth quarter."I think we saw something tonight," said Northern Lehigh head coach Joe Tout. "We have to start desiging some things to get [Snyder] the ball."Snyder also completed six passes for 64 yards."I felt like I could do my part to help the team," Snyder said. "The team really stepped up and everyone did their part and we got the job done."Snyder and the Northern Lehigh offense took the ball for the final drive with 3:22 left and all of their timeouts. They went 58 yards in 10 plays, including a pair of fourth-down conversions. Nate Farber bulled his way on a fourth and one early in the drive. Snyder completed a 20-yard pass to CJ Young after a holding penalty put the Bulldogs in a fourth and 16.Snyder and Young connected on another 20-yard pass that put Northern Lehigh (4-1) on the Palisdaes 9-yard line to set up Snyder's touchdown run with 23 seconds left."The last two years we were finding ways to lose close games," said Tout. "What I'm finding with this group, which is more close-knit, they're finding ways to win."In the first half, Northern Lehigh didn't look like it was finding a way to win. Six penalties, three turnovers and some blown pass coverage put the Bulldogs down 13-0.The Pirates (3-2) recovered a fumbled punt at the Northern Lehigh 14-yard line to set up their first touchdown, which came on an 11-yard pass from Austin Krauss to Nick Bord with 5:39 left in the first quarter.A third-down pass interference penalty helped Palisades get a second touchdown on a 4-yard Levi Wilkins run with 5:13 left in the first half. The Pirates converted on five fourth downs in the first half, but only converted on third or fourth down once in the second half."For the first time all year it looked like we were tired," said Pirate head coach Kevin Ronalds. "We have really dominated people in the second half. They may have wore us down a little bit. I think we've only given up one touchdown in the second half combined."The teams traded punts to start the second half, but then Young picked off a Krauss pass and returned it 40 yards to set his team up at the Pirate's 25-yard line. The Bulldogs took seven plays to get to paydirt on Nate Farber's four-yard run with 11:31 left in the game."CJ Young really ignited us with that interception," said Tout. "We felt Palisades was a very physical football team. Both teams hit tonight. I was really proud of our physical play. At Northern Lehigh we still pride ourselves on playing physical football."Tout said he expects Cederberg back next week. Ronalds said his top running back, Christian Gretzinger, who left the game in the first half, is also expected back next week.
