Pleasant Valley's Slavin stays unbeaten

Seth Slavin remains unbeaten. The sophomore runner at Pleasant Valley has never had another runner beat out his time. That didn't change on Tuesday afternoon at Bethlehem Municipal Park as Slavin finished first with a time of 16:14, a whole 27 seconds faster than second place Alex Fitch from Liberty.

"The confidence he comes in with and the training he puts in, he should feel really good about his performances this year," said head coach George Fair. "He should be excited, as much as I am, heading into leagues and districts. He hasn't been beaten, but we haven't raced Easton and Emmaus yet and they have some good runners."Racing for the first time at the course, Slavin did not have any expectations but to just go out and run like he always does, and it paid off for the young Bear against the likes of Liberty, Freedom, Bethlehem Catholic and Stroudsburg."I was a little sore from running in the invitational Saturday and I wasn't sure what the competition would be like," said Slavin. "Liberty and Freedom both have a lot of good guys. Going down that hill really gave me a lot of energy that last mile."Khai Samuels (18:09), Tom Ciaccio (18:09) and Billy Milburn (18:21) joined Slavin with top 20 finishes."Our boys team has been one of the strongest we've had at Pleasant Valley in many years," noted Slavin. "Coach is really happy because our training has really paid dividends for us."Like the boys team, the girls had multiple runners finish the top 20 overall.Lizz Eberhardt (19:51), Jenn Mickens (20:37), Brittney Bonser (21:44) and Savannah Bauman (22:26) gave the Bears a good finish to the second last meet of the regular season."It's tough because virtually we lost our entire girls team from last year," said Fair. "[Lizz] Eberhardt and [Jenn] Mickens put a lot of time over the summer to get where they are. We had three races in a matter of a week. They should be feeling their legs at this point, but there's just no quit in them. They work hard and train well together at practice."With one more regular season meet to go at Nazareth, Pleasant Valley is looking to keep it going and consistently have runners finish with high times.BoysLiberty 20, Pleasant Vy. 38Freedom 25, Pleasant Vy. 31Pleasant Vy. 21, Becahi 391.
