March 11, 2000 Northern Lehigh's Jared Herzog earns a 4-3 decision over Joe Makara of Burrell to capture the Class AA 103-pound state championship. Herzog falls behind early on a takedown by Makara, but the Bulldog junior gains an escape and a takedown to move in front, 3-2, at the end of the first period. Both wrestlers cut each other loose to start the final two periods, and Herzog hangs on for the victory. Three other Times News area wrestlers capture third place medals. They are Northern Lehigh's Steve Hluschak, Northwestern's Zach Wehr and Tamaqua's Andy Breiner.
