March 17, 1972 Don Herman scores his team's first 13 points of the fourth quarter to help Jim Thorpe gain a lead and eventually post a 60-45 victory over Northwest in the PIAA Class C Eastern quarterfinals. Tied at 39-39 after three frames the Olympians open the final period on a 13-4 run, with all of JT's points scored by Herman. The winners, coached by "Chuck" Hanna, receive a game-high 25 points from Herman while Jim Kmetz contributes 11 and Danny Albeck adds 10. George Albert also chips in with nine points.
