4th of July launches heat wave

Fireworks weren't the only things launched over the Fourth of July holiday. The mercury shot up on Sunday to signal the start of an old-fashioned summer heat wave. At 5:30 p.m. Sunday, temperatures reached into the mid 90s throughout the area. Here, there is no sign of movement along East Broad Street in Tamaqua as residents either stayed in air-conditioned quarters or headed to the community swimming pool or nearby state parks. The heat will continue this week, potentially close to 100 degrees Tuesday and Wednesday.
