Seven Times News area teams will be in action Wednesday during the opening round of the District 11 doubles tournaments.
The Pleasant Valley duo of Jon White and Erik Ammerman lead the way as the only seeded pair from the TN area in the event.White and Ammerman earned the No. 2 seed in the Class AAA bracket, and will take on Pocono Mountain East's Zyang Lin and Tristen Boheim.The other six teams in action on Wednesday will be competing in Class AA.After sending three players to last week's singles tournament, Jim Thorpe will send a trio of doubles teams to this week's event. John Lowin and Brett Luicana, Shaun DiCostanzo and Luke Carter and Matt Miller and Roman Raytsis all qualified for the Olympians.Palmerton will be represented by two teams: Rich and Marc Roselli and Sal Melo and Jake Brown.Tegan Durishin and Josh Knappenberger qualified for Lehighton.Miller and Raytsis have arguably the toughest draw, going against No. 3 seed Srini Laliwala and Dave Mason of Saucon Valley. DiCostanzo and Carter also drew a seeded opponent, the No. 5 team of Niko Franekic and Ryan Schmidt of Bethlehem Catholic.The rest of the local matchups feature unseeded teams. Roselli and Roselli will face Brands and Elms of Moravian Academy, while Brown and Melo will take on Ney and McCaw of Blue Mountain; Lowin and Luicana will have Hufford and Montone, also of Blue Mountain; and Durishin and Knappenberger will go against Werner and Sorrentino of Allentown Central Catholic.The first and second rounds for Class AAA will be at Saucon Valley High School. The opening and second rounds for AA teams will be at Parkland.
