Sara Pisak, daughter of John and Regina Pisak, Sugarloaf, was recently notified that her entry into the annual national poetry contest sponsored by Creative Communication has been accepted for publication.
Pisak a student at Marian Catholic High School, Hometown, submitted her poem entitled, "To Stand Back Up." It will be published in the Spring anthology, "A Celebration of Poets."To Stand Back UpTo stand back up when you are knocked downAnd your eyes are even with the ground. There's light inside that just won't quitEven if you're at your last wit.You pick back up and try againAnd who knows what you'll find then.No matter how many times you stumble and fallAnd even if you hit a wall.Have the courage to stand back upEven when you're out of luck. The world keeps spinning round and roundAnd it's hard to keep up when your feet feel boundA light inside will burn brightAnd help you through your darkest night.Since 1993, Creative Communication, the publisher of Poetic Power, has sponsored poetry contests. For each contest, more than $70,000 is awarded to students and adult poets, and $17,000 in grants to schools. The intent of the contests is to reward creative students.Accepted entries will now advance for review, making them eligible for prizes, as well as the chance for their author to be selected as a Top Ten Poet.Poems entered into the contest are judged by a panel of published writers and educators in elementary, secondary and higher education, who have a background in literature. Poems are selected for publication in the anthology based on their merit, creativity and social significance. This accomplishment marks Pisak's fourth entry selected for publication. In addition to having her poem chosen for publication, she was selected for Creative Communication's final competition.
