Sons & Heirs this weekend
The music of Morrissey, Johnny Marr and company lives on with The Sons & Heirs, a New York-based Smiths' tribute band that re-creates the experience of seeing The Smiths in their prime.
The band comes to the Mauch Chunk Opera House, 14 W. Broadway, Jim Thorpe, this Saturday at 8 p.m.Singer Ronnissey, guitarist Ravi Marr, bassist Fredo Rourke and drummer Flax Joyce deliver the songs, glamour and live atmosphere of The Smiths and solo Morrissey, all with keen attention to detail, down to the last gladioli.Attracting accolades from Rolling Stone, writer Rob Sheffield recently wrote, "The Sons & Heirs have played this music all over the world... Their Valentine's Day event, 'Unloveable,' has become a New York ritual - every year it's the toughest ticket in town. In 2015 they headlined the international Smiths-Morrissey convention in Hollywood. Every show is different. Every show permanently changes my mind about this or that song's brilliance."Since 2006, the Sons & Heirs have performed everywhere from Tel Aviv to Los Angeles, sharing the stage with the likes of Smiths' bassist Andy Rourke and Morrissey drummer Spencer Cobrin.This will be a night for all who have come to love rock 'n' roll in one of its finest moments.The Lower Wolves, a Philadelphia-based band, will open the concert with music from REM.Also at the opera house:• 8 p.m. Friday, Adam Ezra Group. From houses of worship to houses of blues, Foster can move audiences to tears or ecstasy.• 8 p.m. May 7, David Bromberg Quintet. Based in the folk and blues idioms, Bromberg expands with each new album to encompass bluegrass, ragtime, country and ethnic music.• 8 p.m. June 4, Danielle Nicole Band. With a voice that can make a trucker weep, Nicole sings the blues like no one else.• 8 p.m. June 11, David Mayfield Parade. Mayfield, the singer-songwriter, band leader, and Grammy-nominated producer grew up playing bass and touring with his family's bluegrass band.
