Olympians, Panthers, Fillies get volleyball wins
Three area volleyball teams earned wins in local action on Monday night.
VOLLEYBALLLourdes-Jim ThorpeJim Thorpe earned a home victory against Lourdes, 25-6, 25-11, 25-12.Kelsey Carroll was a Jim Thorpe standout with 11 assists.Erin Shigo added seven kills, as Joclyn Day contributed six aces. Mackenzie Rosenberger and Jordan Waselus each had three kills during the win.Panther Valley-LehightonPanther Valley topped Lehighton in three straight sets in Schuylkill League action, 25-15, 25-18 26-24.Jamey Mikovich led Panther Valley with 24 kills, nine service points, and six aces. Kelsey Van also contributed 10 aces, nine kills, and seven service points during the PV win.Despite the loss, Katie Higgins of Lehighton had 16 digs and 14 kills. Alyssa Jordan tallied 11 kills and five digs.Marian-TamaquaMarian was able to take care of business against Tamaqua for a 3-0 non-league victory.The Fillies defeated the Raiders 25-8, 25-4, and 25-9.Jasmine Mooney and Abigail Stankiewitch led the way for Marian with 10 kills apiece.Courtney McCall came through with 25 assists on the night.Pleasant Valley-EmmausEmmaus defeated Pleasant Valley in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference clash, 25-19, 25-13, 25-19.Alexis Richey led the Lady Bears with 15 assists. Noel Kelly had a dozen digs and four kills, as Sara Kron chipped in with six kills and five blocks.BOYS SOCCERNorthwestern-BangorNorthwestern was able to hold off Bangor for a 3-1 triumph.Andrew Goodolf and Daniel Hallingstad each added a goal for the Tigers (10-0) in the first half.Hallingstad then added his second goal of the game with just four minutes remaining put the game out of reach for the Slaters.ES North-Pleasant ValleyPleasant Valley goalies Brad Bickman and Ian Prator combined for a shutout as the Bears topped East Stroudsburg North 2-0 for the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win.The Bears received goals from Devon Woltal and Kelvy Gomez.FIELD HOCKEYPalmerton-Moravian AcademyMoravian Academy got out to a 5-0 lead at the half and it never looked back, defeating Palmerton 8-3 for the Colonial League victory.Mayv Clune led Moravian with two goals.For Palmerton, Sayler Burke, Mercy Melo, and Trisha Billig scored a goal apiece.Palisades-NorthwesternAshley Volpe scored the lone goal giving Palisades a 1-0 win over Northwestern in Colonial League play.Both teams had 15 shots on goal.Lehighton-ES SouthMadi Krajewski and Lexis Girard-Cutaio scored goals for the Cavaliers in a 2-1 victory over Lehighton in non-league action.Allie Rossino scored the lone goal for Lehighton.GIRLS SOCCERPine Grove-Jim ThorpePine Grove stayed undefeated, as it scored four second-half goals to top Jim Thorpe, 4-0.Mackenzie Lesh scored twice for Pine Grove during the win. James had eight for Weatherly.Tamaqua-Pine GroveTamaqua was able to pull away from a determined Pine Grove team by a score of 46-18. Emily Titus led the Lady Raiders with 15 and Jen Frederickson added 11.7th Grade GirlsTamaqua-WeatherlyThe Tamaqua Lady Raiders, beat Weatherly 33-5.Alexsya Thomas paced the Lady Raiders with 12 points, Sophia Boyle (4-2-2) added 10.Tamaqua-Pine GroveThe Tamaqua Lady Raiders (3-2-2) ended with a tie against Pine Grove, 13-13.Makenna Kane and Sophia Boyle had four points each for Tamaqua.
