Lehighton in district semifinals
After a two year hiatus, the Lehighton field hockey team is back in the district playoffs.
The Indians are also back to their winning ways, defeating Catasauqua 3-2 on Thursday to advance to the semifinal round of the AA bracket. The Tribe and Rough Riders met during the regular season and Lehighton came away with a 4-2 victory. With the prior match-up being such a close affair, both teams expected this one to be even closer. They were right, as The Indians needed a late game goal by Lauren Marks at the 17:51 mark in the second half to come away with the win.Marks goal was a result of the constant pressure the Tribe applied to the Catty defense throughout the day."One of our goals coming into to today was to cut to the ball a lot and put pressure on them," said Lehighton head coach Karen Hall. "We communicated well and as a team I think all the girls played well. We have some girls that can apply pressure and that's why we were able to do today."Lehighton's Sage Miller had the hot stick on the day, scoring two goals. Miller's first goal gave Lehighton a 1-0 lead and came at the 22:59 mark in the first half. However, it was her second goal that dazzled all those in attendance. The shot was the end result of a beautiful exchange that started on the right sideline. Ali Rossino received a long and perfect pass from midfield and she then slapped the ball beautifully to Miller on the left side of the goal. Miller took advantage of the one-timer and put the ball in the back of the goal."It was a great play and it shows how well we can pass the ball as a team," said Miller. "I just want to thank my teammates for getting me the ball when I was in position to score. We're a tight group and we really wanted this win."Catasauqua scored its first goal at the 12:43 mark in the first half and the 26:20 mark in the second half. Both goals were scored by Quinn Bachman and assisted by Morgan Meckes and Kenzie Bradley.UP NEXT...
