Olympians rebound past Panther Valley

The one word that describes last night's 58-32 win by Jim Thorpe over Panther Valley is "rebound."

The Olympians rebounded from an earlier loss to the Panthers and they accomplished the victory by totally controlling the glass on both sides of the court. On the offensive boards, JT repeatedly took second and third shots before converting points off misses. Defensively, it was a one and done night for the Panthers if the ball didn't go in on their first attempt.PV head coach, Pat Crampsie was disappointed in his team's effort."We had a total lack of physicality tonight," he said. "We played scared and soft. Up to this point in the season, I've been very proud of our effort, but we let them push us around in this game. We cannot expect to compete without mental and physical toughness. Coming in we knew we couldn't jump with them, but we didn't box out and we didn't contest their shots."Jim Thorpe (5-3) controlled the pace of the game right from the start. After PV's Matt Hudicka hit a three with 40 seconds gone by, the Olympians took over. Matt Elmore's bucket at the 5:20 mark broke a 4-4 tie and started his team on a 11-0 run. The streak culminated with Elmore's lay up with three minute's left in the period.Olympian head coach Jason McElmoyle loved his team's performance."We really picked each other up, especially with help side defense," he said. "We played aggressively for 32 minutes and I thought we never let our foot off the gas pedal."After Panther Valley (1-6) cut the lead to eight points at the end of the first, Jim Thorpe went on an 11-0 tear at the start of the second to build its lead to 29-10. The Olympians received balance scoring from Rayan Green, Elmore, and Alec Lauer who kicked in a couple of threes.Green led all scorers with 18 points and was a presence under both baskets all night. He converted high percentage put backs offensively and limited the Panthers to one try with his defensive rebounding. Thorpe finished the third quarter with another Green put back to put his team up comfortably with a 46-27 advantage.Midway through fourth quarter, Jim Thorpe's Michael Jefferson outscored the Panther Valley team, 8-0. Jefferson, who scored 10 on the night, worked inside the paint to tally four baskets off accurate passes from his teammates and off offensive rebounds."We are definitely showing signs of getting better," said McElmoyle. "Jefferson really picked up the pace to start the fourth, but I liked our whole team effort from start to finish."Besides Green and Jefferson, Elmore added 10 points. PV was led by Tristan Blasko's 11 points.REVENGE FACTOR… Jim Thorpe gave up a 14-point fourth quarter lead in its earlier loss to PV and McElmoyle said that revenge was definitely a motive for his team "We played this fourth quarter with the attitude that we weren't going to let this one get away."DOUBLE DIGIT DELIVERY… JT's Rayan Green was an unstoppable force with his 18 points and 15 rebounds. He shot eight for 11 from the floor, an outstanding 73 percent.PANTHER VALLEYFigueroa 2-3-6-7 Stanko 0-2-2-2, Micholik 0-0-0-0, Miller 0-0-0-0, Hudicka 2-0-0-6, Blasko 5-1-2-11, Emmert 0-0-0-0, Morgans 1-0-0-2, Perez 2-0-1-4, Mehmeti 0-0-0-0, Fisher 0-0-0-0.
