The Schuylkill League has released its schedule for the upcoming football season.

The 2016 season will begin on Aug. 26 with three Times News squads playing at home. One of those teams, Lehighton, is set to open its new stadium.Besides the name change (previously the Anthracite Football League), the Schuylkill League will consist of two divisions. Jim Thorpe, Lehighton and Tamaqua will compete in Division 1 with Blue Mountain, Pottsville and North Schuylkill. Marian and Panther Valley are slotted into Division 2, along with Mahanoy Area, Shenandoah Valley, Schuylkill Haven and Minersville.All 12 teams in the league will play "non-league" games the first four weeks of the season. Many area clubs will face new opponents. For example, Lehighton opens with Fleetwood, Marian faces Penns Valley, and Panther Valley meets Hamburg.The final week of the campaign (Oct. 28) remains similar to past seasons, as many schools will be playing their rivals.
