Local Lions receive Presidential Awards

Past International Director Robert W. Miller of Orwigsburg and Past District Governor Paul Barth of West Penn Township were recently presented Lions Clubs International awards.

Miller received an International President's Award and Barth receive an International Leadership Award.The awards were presented by Lions Clubs International President Eberhard Wirfs of Kelkheim, Germany, at the Pennsylvania Lions State Convention held at the Crown Plaza Hotel, West Reading.The Presidential Award is Lions Clubs International's second highest award, while the Leadership Award is Lions Clubs International is the third highest award.Miller is a member of the West Penn Township Lions Club. He has been an active Lions club member for 51 years. He served as president of the West Penn Lions Club in addition to serving as a District Governor in Lions Clubs International in 1978-79. He was elected to serve a two-year term as an international director of the Lions Clubs International board of directors in 2001. He is the only Lion in Schuylkill or Carbon counties to ever have served on the International board of directors of Lions Clubs International. He continues to be active in his local Lions Club, Lions District 14-U, the Pennsylvania State Council of Lions Clubs as well as the International Lions Organization.Barth is also an active member of the West Penn Lions Club, where he served in various offices of the club including president. In addition, Barth served as the District Governor of Lions District 14-U in 2002-03. He continue to be active in Lions on the local level as well as on the state level. He is presently serving as president of the Pennsylvania Lions Past District Governor's organization.Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service organization with a membership of over 1.3 million in 45,900 clubs and 743 districts in 205 countries and geographic areas of the world. Plans are presently being made for the 93rd Lions Clubs International Convention which will be held in Sydney, Australia from June 28 to July 2. Barth and his wife, Marie, are planning to attend the convention in Sidney.
