Eldred Twp. approves sprucing up community center

The Eldred Township supervisors approved a bid to paint and refloor parts of the Eldred Township Community Center at the meeting Wednesday night.

The main portion of the building, hall, gymnasium and community center room will be repainted and refloored.

“This is one start of improving (the community center),” Supervisor JoAnne Bush said after the meeting.

The township will choose different colors from what is in the community center now.

The board awarded the lowest bid to Spectrum of Floors LLC for $46,795 based on some contingencies.

These renovations will complete a larger project that was funded by a Local Share Account Grant around 2014, Bush said.

The township also voted to buy four “No Trespassing” and “No Swimming” signs for the new recreation area by Princess Run Creek in Walter W. Mock Memorial Park.

Supervisors tentatively discussed creating an ordinance against swimming in that area and attaching a fine.

“When we have a lot of runoff, the water level rises, (and) the creek can get quite turbulent,” secretary Ann Velopolcek explained after the meeting. “We don’t want people being injured in the creek.”

There is one place in the creek that children have historically used as a swimming hole, Velopolcek said. But kids don’t swim there much anymore.

“But we wanna at least inform people that there could be a dangerous situation in certain weather situations,” Velopolcek said.
