August 17, 1981 - Tamaqua closes the Panther Valley Little League tournament in impressive fashion, rolling to a 27-0 win over Nesquehoning to finish undefeated. The winners, coached by Merle Wertman, hit four solo homers in the lopsided victory. Blasting long balls are Sean Love, Keith Wunderlick, A.J. Caldonetti, and Tom Rottet. Caldonetti collects five hits and drives in seven runs. Rudy Butterworth tosses a one-hitter, striking out 15 batters, and adds four hits on offense. Love also ends the contest with four hits, while Bill Liaw and Rich Wentz each finish with three.
