Marian blanks MA

MAHANOY CITY - Marian coach Stan Dakotsky told his team to go out and play a complete football game before Friday's contest against Mahanoy Area.

And the Colts responded by toppling Mahanoy Area in a Schuylkill League contest, 30-0.Marian executed big offensive plays, sustaining a late-game drive, created four defensive turnovers, and even blocked a punt. The game's table-settter happened on the opening kickoff, when Seth Paluck broke through the oncoming Bear tacklers and romped for an 80-yard touchdown return."We just can't let that happen at the start," said Mahanoy coach, Dave Holman. "It was the beginning of a sloppy football game for us. The turnovers killed our drives. We can't give a good team like Marian that many opportunities and expect to win."Throughout the entire game, Colts' quarterback Ethan Kuczynski executed Dakotsky's option offense flawlessly. The forward pass was used sparingly, but it came up big at the five-minute mark of the first quarter. Kuczynski hit a deep post-pass to Anthony Collevechio off play action to put Marian up by two touchdowns."Ethan was just tremendous tonight," said Dakosty. "He's as good as you will see at the quarterback position. While their defense was locking down the Bears' offense in the second half, the Marian offense unveiled a power runner attack with Nathan Litsch, Ryan Cappel, and Kyle Plesh. Following the recovery of a fumble, Marian drove to the Bears' 15 yard-line. Cappel slashed to the eight and fumbled forward into the end zone. However, guard Gunnar Rehrig fell on the ball to give the Colts a commanding 21-0 lead going into the final quarter. On the first play of the final 12 minutes, Kuczynski capped a 64-yard drive with a perfect read-option fake up the middle, scampering around left end for a 21-yard touchdown run.Marian's final score came with just under three minutes to play when Jarod Paisley split the uprights for a 22-yard field goal."I think we are really starting to hit our stride now," said Dakotsky, whose team improved to 4-3. "Our players have such a great attitude. We are coming together and you can see the results."LETHAL WEAPON … Kuczynski and receiver, Anthony Collevehio had a terrific game together, hooking up on four pass plays totaling 94 yards and a touchdown.LUCKY SEVENS … No. 77 for the Colts, Gunnar Rehrig, had an all-around big game.
