Bulldog boys working hard to improve this year
A 1-21 record from last season didn't quite hold too well with Northern Lehigh head coach Jeff Miller.
And it didn't sit any better with the returning Bulldog players this year. Thus, Miller has his program focused on what's ahead, and not on the past."We certainly don't want to experience that again," Miller said. "Hopefully the ones who had to endure that don't want to go through that again. Instead of focusing on that, they have been working extremely hard. We have been pushing them to become better players to prevent that whole idea from happening again."It was by far the worst season in terms of wins and losses that Miller has experienced in his six years with the Bulldogs' basketball program. The only other losing record that the Bulldogs endured under his guidance was two years ago, when the team went 5-17.Last year started off on a good note, as the Bulldogs began the regular season with a win over Hamburg on opening night. Unfortunately, it was all downhill after that.Miller stated that his returning core is taking the right steps to improve from last season. Senior Joe Egan, juniors Mason Seiler and Gio Colon, and sophomores Preston Kemery and Brandon Hess are working hard to make sure the Bulldogs get back on the winning track."This group is going to grow together," Miller said. "We will be better in January than we are in December. They will just keep growing as the season goes on. They're really good young men who come to practice to work hard."I've worked this group harder than any other group that I have had and they don't argue at all. We bust their butts. They go home dog tired, but they know this will help them get better each and every day. They do this because they don't want to be 1-21. They want to be much better than that."Egan will undoubtedly look to pick up where he left off last season as the Bulldogs' leading scorer. The senior averaged 12.6 points per game. Next best was Hess (4.1 ppg) and Colon (2.1).Miller believes that a mixture of things will help guide the Bulldogs in the right direction."We're going to try and do some different things defensively," Miller said. "Maybe press a little more than we have in the past."But I just think the team unity and camaraderie amongst these guys will be key in leading us forth in action. They work together to get the job done."
