The district playoffs are about to begin.The District 11 playoffs will begin Tuesday and run through Saturday, March 4. The Times News will feature 10 teams, who will be representing seven separate classifications.Starting with the boys side, Marian Catholic (19-3) earned the second seed in Class 2A.The Colts will clash with the Colonial League's third-seeded Moravian Academy (11-11) on Feb. 28. TN leading scorer Brandon Mohammed was injured in the Schuylkill League semifinals, and his status is currently unknown.Class 4A features three local teams.There's nothing like a local storied rivalry in the opening round, right? Lehighton, seeded third, will take on sixth-seeded Jim Thorpe on Friday, Feb. 24 at Pleasant Valley, starting at 7:30 p.m.The Indians (16-6) topped the Olympians (12-10) by single digits in both meetings this season.Tamaqua (13-9) earned the fifth seed in 4A. The Blue Raiders and second-year head coach Jim Barron will have a date with No. 4 Saucon Valley (13-9) on Friday, Feb. 24 at Pleasant Valley, 6 p.m.On to the girls ...Weatherly (9-13) is making its second consecutive District 11 playoff appearance and will battle fourth-seeded Nativity on Friday, Feb. 24 at Martz Hall, at 5 p.m.The Wreckers, competing in Class 1A and the No. 5 seed, are led by Emily Zoscin, who is the area's second leading scorer.In Class 2A, fourth-seeded Marian (16-6) has a familiar foe on tap with Schuylkill League rival and No. 5 seed Shenandoah Valley (14-8) in the first round. The winner will have a date with No. 1 state-ranked Minersville in the second round.Jim Thorpe (13-9) will represent the TN area in Class 3A. The Olympians, at No. 7, will travel to New Hope-Solebury for a 7 p.m. tip-off on Friday, Feb 24. New Hope, undefeated during the regular season, earned the second seed behind top-ranked St. Basil Academy.Northwestern (15-7) is the second seed in Class 4A. The Tigers earned a bye in the first round, and will play the winner of Tamaqua/Allentown Central Catholic. The youthful Raiders (11-11) earned the sixth seed behind the strong play of a few emerging underclassmen.
