Shackleton wins race at PSAC swim tourney

Trey Shackleton, a Northwestern graduate and three-time Times News swimmer of the year, recently helped West Chester University capture its 19th consecutive Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference tournament championship.

Shackleton, a sophomore who spent his freshman year at Indiana University, won one individual event and finished second in two other races. He was also part of a winning relay team and a runner-up foursome.The former Tiger captured gold in the 1650-yard freestyle race, taking the event in a time of 15:50.35. He finished 12 seconds before the second-place swimmer.Shackleton gained second-place honors in the 200 and 1000 freestyle, and a fifth in the 500 free. In the 200, he swam a 1:39.74, while in the 1000 his time was 9:19.98. In both events, he finished second to another West Chester teammate.The Rams captured the 800 freestyle relay in a time of 6:40.02. Shackleton swam the opening leg, and turned in the team's second fastest time (1:39.88). He was also a member of the 400 freestyle quartet that placed second.West Chester cruised to the team title with 2824 points, well ahead of second-place finisher Bloomsburg (1909.5).
