Taras connection leads Panther Vy.

A pitcher and catcher always have a chance to control the game.

And on Thursday night, Ryan and Jake Taras of the Panther Valley Black Diamonds took advantage of every opportunity from both positions.Ryan was efficient on the mound and Jake was effective behind the plate, en route to a 9-1 Carbon County Senior Babe Ruth win over the Franklin Hurricanes."Ryan and Jake grew up together and played baseball together their whole lives," said Panther Valley head coach Rich Evanko. "This is the first season that I've had the opportunity to have them both. Today (Ryan) only threw maybe 65 pitches tops."Eric Bolton scored Franklin's only run in the third inning, when he reached on the only PV error of the evening. He scored, but TJ Hosler grounded into a double play to eliminate more damage."Every time I'm out on the mound, I just try to go out there and throw my pitches," said Ryan Taras, who threw a complete game. "I'm not a strikeout pitcher, so I just go out there and do my job and try to throw my best. I've played with these people my whole life and I trust every one of them."The Black Diamonds methodically scored a single run in five of the first six innings to help cushion the lead. A few loud cracks were heard in the fourth, when Ronnie Distler one-hopped the left field fence for a double. Wyatt Zimmerman immediately drove him in with a shot to left-center field that rolled to the fence, and the game was 3-1 at that point."It's still a work in progress, using your upper and lower half at the same time," said Evanko of Zimmerman's approach. "But Wyatt did what he was supposed to do with that pitch. It was a ball that was on the middle to outer half, and he took it up the middle and it went all the way to the fence. He produced two big runs in this game to kind of break it open."As Ryan Taras continued to roll on the mound, Jake shined behind the plate in the fifth.Dale Edwards led off the fifth with a single for the Hurricanes, and he was pegged out trying to steal second on the next pitch. Hosler reached base next, and it was the same story as Taras threw him out too."It felt great honestly," said the Panther Valley catcher. "I've been working on it since high school, getting my throws down. We started off strong, but we had a couple losses ... But we're coming back, and we're going to keep coming."The Black Diamonds added four more in the top of the seventh to put the game away.MORE PV OFFENSE … Aaron Miller was 3-for-3 from the dish with two RBIs and two runs. Tristan Blasko and Zimmerman each had two RBIs. "Today the hits finally came," said Evanko. "Up until today, we weren't being productive with runners in scoring position. With a runner on second, I think we were like 0-for-18 with 24 strikeouts. Today's approach was much better. It wasn't good, but it was much better and we got some runs to show for it.HORSE … Franklin's Dale Edwards pitched into the seventh inning and threw 105 pitches.Panther Vy. 101 111 4 - 9 10 1Franklin 010 000 0 - 1 4 5R.
