Lauren Ward, a senior band member at Tamaqua Area High School, has been selected by the committee of Schuylkill County Band Directors to be the 2010 Schuylkill County Band Scholarship winner. The scholarship is worth $500.
Lauren has kept busy throughout high school attending various band functions and festivals in Tamaqua's name. Locally, she has been a member of the Schuylkill County Band, Schuylkill Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the Cressona Community Band. She has also auditioned for and played in District 10 Band, District 10 Orchestra, and Region V Band.The summer before her junior year, she traveled to five European countries with American Music Abroad.She has also been in the Allentown Side-By-Side Band, Pennsylvania All-State Lions Band, and Susquehanna Honors Band Wind Ensemble.Lauren plans to attend Lebanon Valley College next fall in pursuit of a double major in Music Education and Music, both with a concentration in flute. Lauren's private flute instructor is Judith Schmaldienst of Hegins.She is the daughter of Thomas and Ruth Ward of Tamaqua.
