The Blue Ridge Real Estate Company, through its subsidiary Northeast Land company, put 146 years of history on the auction block. Offered to the highest bidder was a 712 acre tract - almost the whole southern side of the Pisgah Mountain - between Summit Hill and Jim Thorpe - including most of Josiah White's masterpiece, the right of way of the Switchback Railroad. There were no bidders. Allentown auctioneer Lou A. Pillsbury failed to draw even a token bid from the 52 people attending the auction, held at Mauch Chunk Trust Company.
