Bowmanstown talks sewer, road issues
Bowmanstown Council members discussed sewer and road issues at Tuesday night's meeting.
The possibility of a new grinder for the sewer was discussed by Burdell Steigerwalt and Darren Thomas.The council will continue to discuss this including facts, and figures. A quote was received."The sewage system is old, so expenses are to be expected," Thomas said.Mayor William Ravert suggested that for an auction in September, that borough residents will get first chance.Norman Engle Jr. suggested that letters be sent out to residents from White Street to Craig Street regarding putting in curbs. However, since there would be required fees from the residents to put in curbing, waiving the fees was discussed. Thomas said that since many residents have paid these fees already, the residents from White to Craig streets should be required to pay.The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency's recommendation to Gov. Tom Wolf's office to appoint Codi Sigley for Emergency Management Coordinator for Bowmanstown was approved.Solicitor James Preston discussed the garbage hauler bid specifications and said they need to be filled in.Maintenance of the White Street retaining wall is up to the borough.A motion was approvedto get clarifications on pull chains for the valves in the sewer.Engineer Jessica Rehrig reported that a grant was given for the Lime Street project, which can begin right away.Moyer suggested that the ordinance that there can be no more than two birds on a property of at least 10,000 square feet should be changed to five or six birds on an area of 4,000 square feet. There was a motion carried to amend this.There was a complaint about an area on East White Street sinking from the sewers. The section is a state road and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will be contacted.Moyer reported that office dividers will be put in the borough hall in the council meeting room to separate the kitchen area from the meeting area.Moyer said the newsletter will be sent out soon, and needed suggestions for what to include, such as information on compost, information from the fire company and driving an unlicensed vehicle on the streets. Topics need to be in by the middle of the month.
