A meeting has been scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 10, in Lehighton, regarding the potential of forming a "Blue Mountain Council of Government."
John C. Wagner, borough manager in Lehighton, said neighboring municipalities have been invited to attend. The main speaker will be Linda Costa, executive director of the Pa. Councils of Government.Wagner had proposed the concept of creating a Council of Government (COG) several months ago, indicating it could save municipalities money by sharing specialized equipment and possibly services. As an example, several months ago it was proposed that a milling machine be purchased in Lehighton. Wagner said such a machine could cost as much as $50,000."I believe that it makes far better sense to wait until Linda Costa makes her presentation on Councils of Government and, if the municipalities choose to go that course, a jointly-owned milling machine or two would make perfect sense," he told council at that time. It's not certain what other municipalities are interested in the formation of such an inter-municipal organization.A Council of Governments is also being considered in the Panther Valley area, which would include Summit Hill, Lansford, Nesquehoning, and Jim Thorpe.
