2019 primary election: Weatherly school board seats nearly decided

It appears there will be a head-to-head contest for a seat on the Weatherly Area School District Board of Education in November after four people won both Democratic and Republican nominations in balloting for five four-year seats on the board, while two other people won one nomination each.

William Knepper, April Walters, Thomas J. Connors Jr. and Matthew D. vonFrisch emerged from a field of six Democrats and seven Republicans to win on both tickets and virtually assure themselves victories in November.

For the fifth spot on the board, it appears the race will be between Democrat Barbara Sipler and Republican Gerard E. Grega.

In the Democratic balloting, the order of finish was Knepper, 201; Walters, 190; Sipler, 182; Connors, 182; and vonFrisch, 156. Losing out was Nancy Mulvaney, who tallied 153.

In the Republican balloting, the order of finish was Walters, 481; Grega, 435; Knepper, 427; Connors, 370; and vonFrisch, 313. Losing out were Sipler, 297, and Mulvaney, 278.
