Bull destroyed after escaping farm, injuring man

A bull that charged and injured a man Saturday afternoon was put down, according to West Penn Township police.

The police said they feared for the neighboring community and the number of children in the immediate area so the decision was made to destroy it.The bull escaped from a farm owned by Michael Berger on Rabbit Run Road in the township Saturday afternoon.The animal escaped from its corral and made its way through woods and fields to the Macintosh Lane area.It took refuge in a field where Berger and Paul Baker, 58, of East Penn Township, attempted to secure it and remove it by way of a trailer.The bull attacked Baker, mowing him down then stomping on him.Police said Baker has been transferred to St. Luke's University Hospital in Bethlehem.
